The Internet Society Suriname Chapter will serve the total Suriname community in general, but more specifically the internet community, that is the general public, businesses, government and other institutions that use, or need to use the Internet for their existence or growth. Also the Chapter wants to establish partnerships with other Chapters with the same interest, mostly Chapters in the surrounding Caribbean countries
With approximately 600,000 inhabitants in Suriname and the small economy it is difficult for any business activity. With the low economy of scale it is understandable that the cost for individuals to use the Internet can be high. This is a major challenge for the local ISP’s. Together with the local ISPs the Chapter wants to strive to increase the number of subscribers. By doing this we are conforming to two goals, bringing the Internet to the people and trying to divide the total cost by as many subscribers as possible, hence a lower individual cost and higher price/quality ratio can be achieved.
